green and red

So that 'nothing major' tuned into a major. Bronchitis and a fever. Yuck. So I slept for two days and now I am feeling significantly better.
I did my hair a little different today. If you follow me on twitter, you know that a catastrophe happened. Suffice to say, don't trim your bangs when you are sick...it is much harder than it looks. Obviously I haven't improved upon my hairdresser skills since first grade. So anyway, I tried to disguise it with bobby-pins to keep certain pieces in place.

sick

I'm sick today. Nothing major, just my throat. But it's annoying. This morning it hurt to just breathe. And seeing as how I tend to breathe quite frequently, like...every second of every day that was rather irritating. Thus, no smile from megan today.

socks + tights

I love my outfit today. My room-mate always makes fun of me because my clothes are extremely wholesome. She is from the Netherlands and said that there is a church back home called the Black Stocking Church, who all wear really modest clothes. She said I should join, but that's pretty far to go for church. I would have a continual case of jet-lag and I'm just not prepared for that ;) If any of you watch/have seen Will & Grace, she is Karen and I am Grace.

It has been a really long time since I wore a dress [this one has pockets!!], months probably. I should definitely wear them more often, so easy to get dressed in the morning.

Roll Me Up

I decided to put my hair up today. I stole Christa's idea for today. It didn't look nearly as nice as hers, but I still like it. Not looking forward to the midwestern chills, and the requirement of a winter hat. Anyway, I discovered the absolute best way to see a 360 view of your hair! Open PhotoBooth [or whatever the camera is on pc's] and go to video. Voila! 360 degree mirror :)

And yes, you are given the wonderful opportunity to listen to seven seconds of the Kooks.

feelin' nautical

This is the shirt I got for 5 bucks at Penney's. Sah-weeet. Despite having a shower, I didn't feel like wearing a skirt today. This shirt would probably look really weird with a skirt, and I really like wearing new clothes. That is my reasoning [COUGH excuse COUGH].

winter found me

I am officially out of transition. I tried to hang onto my wool fall-to-winter coat for as long as possible. But when the high is 8 degrees, it makes you rethink your priorities.

So after some sporadic shopping at JCP and Charlotte Russe [two shirts and a sweater for less than 20? how could I possibly resist?] I cleaned out all my drawers and the closet. My drawer was starting to squeak because it was too heavy and I just couldn't find "anything" to wear in the mornings. The results: a much happier megan and two garbage bags for Goodwill filled with good clothes that I never wear [or just don't fit because I have had them since high school. Yup that is my excuse... not my tragic love for chocolate.] So refreshing to be able to find clothes.

Yes, I just showed you my closet. I feel so brave. [and mortified] I am still amazed that Elaine at ClothedMuch can do so much with her limited wardrobe. I get into a rut way too easily. Aren't you impressed with my shirts being filed? I got the idea over at Apartment Therapy. Brilliant.

diamonds or no debt?

Today was quite a bit nicer, high of 22--WOOT! Weird how our concept of temperature gets warped through the seasons. I have this awesome necklace. A suitcase and bejeweled camera. Yeah, those are diamonds. [yeah right. If I had diamonds I would sell them to pay off school loans.] I felt fat today, so no high waisted skirt. Comfy jeans that look like dress pants instead [I am so incredibly sneaky...or just lazy] Cafeteria food is not conducive to a well-balanced diet.

My shirt has pockets!! Sorry for that random outburst, but pockets make me happy.

Doesn't my hair look much better today? I washed it. It's really easy, but sometimes I'm too busy. [Gross, I know.]

Layer Up!

Do you remember those horrible awful, slouchy black boots in my last post? I do. [unfortunately] Well, lucky for me, I have a fabulous mother and she bought me a new pair of boots. They aren't even fabric! Anyway....

I have seen the trend of tights and knee high socks for a long time now. Loved it since I first saw it. Strangely, though, I have never worn it. Well, yesterday after freezing my tootsies [spell check says tortoises] off, I decided to layer up this morning.

Mental note: TOMS are not acceptable footwear in the middle of January. They are now banished to my closet until spring shows its lovely face [hoping--quite delusionally--for March].

Also, I decided to change up my scarf tying abilities. Thanks to Jessica over at What I Wore, which is a fabulous blog I assure you.

thrifting

I got to go thrift shopping today! North Dakota farms often equate to the boonies,  but there is a local thrift shop. [Local meaning about 25 miles away] In honor of my last day home, mom and I went shopping. I found some great deals [a full suit for $7.50] and beautiful clothes [gorgeous black-and-white cardigan]-- to be exhibited at a later date :)

I wonder if God got stressed when He made the world [i worry over bread]

Some days....I just do not look cute. Like days when I make bread from scratch. But I still like to think that in a way this displays Classic Femininity. Since I was, you know, classily making bread. [yes, it is quite possible that I am deranged] How do you make bread in a classy way? With flour in your hair of course. There is a reason you can't see my face. Actually, by this time, I had un-bobby pinned my bangs and look somewhat normal.

Grab this button!

I decided to finally make a blog button tonight [as well as a real header]. I hope ya'll like it. Feel free to add it to your own blog. The picture is of my grandmother Margaret Pauley. She was beautiful, both inside and out. A perfect example of classic femininity. She was the homecoming queen, with her future husband as the king. How cute can you get? She was in the top three for Mother of the Year in the 80s. Unfortunately, she died before I really got to know her, but I do know that she was an amazing woman.

mixture

I must say, the more I mix prints together, the more I love it. It's very quirky and something I would definitely not have done a year ago. And I do think that without this blog, I still wouldn't be doing it. Same for color. Looking at your outfits--well at least the ones you want the world to see--makes you see how you can get into a rut. I wear this skirt way too often, but it's the only knee-length skirt I have [not really feeling floor length right now] aside from my denim one. Time to go to Goodwill!
