discovery 1 & 2

Skinny jeans:
For years I was basically scared/prejudiced of skinny jeans. "Only skinny girls can wear those. I don't have the right body type." At least that's what I would tell myself. Well I tried some on the other day, more of a joke than anything. And I was pleasantly surprised. I like skinny jeans?!! Oh, I wish I had known this before.

Vests:
I had tried on a vest before, but never bought one because I wasn't sure if they suited me. Now, I've decided that I will make it suit me. I think that's part of fashion. Even if it isn't the absolute best, you still try it out, change it up a bit, and evolve your own personal style. Today I came across I blog, Already Pretty, where she described her style as arty eclectic with streaks of retro influences. I love that, and thus did the only respectable thing thinkable. I stole it and used it for my description on this blog. Sometimes I wonder if my closet has an occasional identity crisis. I have so many different kinds of clothes, from '50s inspired dresses to converse and skinny jeans. But I'm glad I have a variety: some days I want to dress a little bit more funky, and others I want to pretend to be a 50's housewife in a gingham black and white dress, pearls and heels.

Oh and one more thing, don't be afraid to try a variety of sizes. For example the purple shirt is an XL, but I have a jacket that I wear that is as small as a 4!

Cotton loveliness

I will continue my love affair with Talbot's in this post. I am in love with this skirt. It has, count 'em, not two, but four pockets. And the buttons are too perfect. I knew in the store that I wanted to wear a button up white shirt with it, but I really didn't have one. Fortunately, I was drawn to The Limited because of the storefront. Their clothing is beautiful as well, with many of the details that I love, but too expensive for a college student. They must have heard I was coming. They had their final sale. I forgot to put on the pearls that I would wear with this outfit, so use your imagination.

Beret

I got a new hat! =) Mom and I went shopping in Fargo today. Lots of good deals. But shopping is EXHAUSTING. Anyway, bought some stuff I normally wouldn't. Like boyfriend skinny jeans, a vest, and a tie (mom's idea actually :) I love when guys wear ties, so until it becomes a normal habit for them, I'll just bring it back for them ;) I found an amazing skirt at Talbot's. [drools] If I could afford Talbot's, I would be always buying from that store. It's so tailored, has fun materials and patterns. And very 40's inspired.

Feelin 50's

I wasn't able to get full length pictures because my family had gone camping for the weekend (I helped with a wedding on Saturday) and my full length mirror at home has a huge crack in it. The dress is a bit too short, so I wore a white skirt underneath it. I never would have thought of it on my own. I think I got the idea from Rachel at alamodest. Fabulous blog :) I put my hair up in a high ponytail and tied a black ribbon in it. I also had a white sweater, but it was hot after church so I had taken it off by the time I took pictures. oops
